Making the move to go to drug or alcohol rehab can definitely be life-changing for an addict. But sometimes the whole idea of what “rehab” is all about can be confusing, since many programs are like a revolving door.
So, do you know what an effective substance abuse rehabilitation program like Adult & Teen Challenge in Florida is really like? There are many fallacies about drug and alcohol rehabs in North Port, FL, and other Florida locations.
While all substance abuse rehabs in Florida have a common set of treatments, each center is unique. Results can be highly affected mostly by the length of stay in the program. Short-term rehabs in Florida rarely work. The better rehabs will last several months, not a few days, since it requires that long to get the drugs or alcohol totally out and the addict can begin again to live in truth, positive thinking, and have motivations toward a successful future.
Each addict has a different experience and history with drugs and alcohol. What launched the initial use and subsequent addiction can be quite different for each individual. So, getting to the bottom of it will often take different approaches and some initial therapy.
Addictions are often initially caused by an emotional or physical pain, or a void in the person’s life, so those must be dealt with simultaneously or the addiction cannot be eliminated. Often called “dual-diagnosis” treatment, this work on the heart and soul is critical, but not a part of the treatment in all rehabs.
Addictions are affected by an area of the brain referred to as the Mesolimbic Dopamine System. It is not part of the conscious portion of the brain. So, it is impossible for an addict to discern how to stop their addiction. Whether or not the addict opened the door to the addiction in the first place is irrelevant to their option to turn it around. Once the addiction is started, it takes more than the addict alone to stop it.
It is true that a vast majority of addicts will hit “rock bottom” due to their addiction, before they will enter a drug and alcohol rehab, in a lucid moment of self-preservation. But all addicts are motivated differently, and have different levels of their addiction. For that reason, some may be convinced to get help by loved ones, while others may need to nearly die before they’ll seek help. Common motivators include, but are not limited to: family pressure, legal issues, illness or near-death experiences, or finances. Sadly, many choose to avoid rehab until there’s no other option, but this does not describe all addicts or alcoholics, so don’t wait!
If you or someone you love in Florida is consumed by a harmful addiction to drugs or alcohol, it is best to seek professional help as soon as possible. The longer the addiction goes on, the more difficult it will be to curtail it. In contacting a substance abuse rehab, you can get quick answers to any questions you may have. It is never a poor decision to begin to research the options for addiction treatment.
