Making the move to go to treatment for substance abuse can be life-changing for an addict. But sometimes the whole idea of what “rehab” is all about can be confusing, since many programs are like a revolving door.

Drug and Alcohol RehabsSo, do you know what an effective chemical dependency rehabilitation program like Teen Challenge in Florida is really like? There are many fallacies about drug and alcohol rehabs in Homestead, FL and other Florida locations.

Addiction Treatment Myth #1 – Rehabs for Substance Abuse are “One Size Fits All”

While all substance abuse rehabs in Florida have a common set of treatments, each center is unique. Success can be highly affected mostly by the length of stay in the program. Short-term rehabs in  Florida rarely work. The better rehabs will last several months, not a few days, since it takes that long to get the drugs or alcohol totally out truth, positive thinking and responsibility for a successful future.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs

Each addict has a different experience and history with drugs and alcohol. What triggered the initial use and subsequent addiction can differ for different people. So, unraveling it often takes different approaches and some initial counseling.

Addictions are often initially caused by a hurt or a void in the person’s life, so those must be dealt with at the same time or the addiction cannot be solved. Often called “dual-diagnosis” treatment, this combined therapy is critical, but not provided in all rehabs.

Addiction Treatment Myth #2 – Those With Chemical Dependencies in Florida Have the Choice to Quit their Addiction Without Help

Addictions are affected by an area of of the brain referred to as the Mesolimbic Dopamine System. It is not part of the conscious portion of the brain. So, it is impossible for an addict to discern how to stop their addiction. Whether or not the addict stoked the fire of the addiction in the first place is irrelevant to their option to turn it around. Once the addiction is started, the addict no longer has control to stop the addiction.

Addiction Treatment Myth #3 – An Drug Abuser in Florida Will Refuse to Enter Rehab Until they Have Hit “Rock Bottom”

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs

It is a common thought that a vast majority of individuals must hit “rock bottom” due to their addiction, before they will enter a drug and alcohol rehab, in a lucid moment of self-preservation. But all individuals are motivated differently and have different levels of their addiction. For that reason, some may be motivated to get help by loved ones, while others may need to knock on death’s door before they’ll seek help. Common motivators include, but are not limited to, family pressure, legal issues, illness or near-death experiences, or finances. Unfortunately, many choose to avoid rehab until there’s no other option, but this does not include all addicts or alcoholics, so seek help for them now!

If you, or someone you love in Florida is consumed by a harmful addiction to drugs or alcohol, it is advisable to seek addiction treatment help as soon as possible. The more time goes on, the harder it will be to stop it. In contacting a substance abuse rehab, you can get immediate answers to any questions. It is never a poor decision to at least begin to research the options for addiction treatment.

The population was 31,909 at the 2000 census. The city of Homestead is located near the southern terminus of the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike where it ends at its junction with U.S. 1.
