Deciding to go to treatment for substance abuse can be a positive move for an addict. But sometimes the concept of what “rehab” is all about can be confusing, since many programs are like a revolving door.

Drug and Alcohol RehabsSo, do you know what an effective chemical dependency rehabilitation program like Teen Challenge in Florida is really like? Perhaps we should talk about the myths about substance abuse rehabs in Atlantic Beach, FL and other Florida locations.

Addiction Treatment Myth #1 – Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs are “One Size Fits All”

While all substance abuse rehabs in Florida have a standardized set of treatments, each rehab is unique. Results can be highly affected mostly by the length of stay in the program. Short-term rehabs in  Florida rarely work. The better rehabs will last several months, not a few days, since it requires that long to eliminate the influence of the addiction from their system, and to [begin to instill truth, positive thinking and motivations toward a successful future.

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs

Each client has a different life experience with drugs and alcohol. What launched the initial use and subsequent addiction can differ for different people. So, getting to the bottom of it often takes different approaches and some initial therapy.

Addictions are often initially caused by a disappointment or a void in the person’s life, so those must be dealt with at the same time or the addiction cannot be eliminated. Often called “dual-diagnosis” treatment, this work on the heart and soul is essential, but not provided in all rehabs.

Addiction Treatment Myth #2 – Addicts in Florida Have the Choice to Stop their Addiction Without Help

Addictions are affected by an area of of the brain referred to as the Mesolimbic Dopamine System. This system is not something that a person can consciously manage. So, it is impossible for an addict to discern how to stop their chemical dependency. Whether or not the addict stoked the fire of the addiction to begin with is irrelevant to their option to stop it. Once Pandora’s Box is opened, it takes more than the addict alone to stop it.

The Third Myth of Addiction Treatment – An Drug Abuser in Florida Will Reject Going to a Rehab Until they Have Hit “Rock Bottom”

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs

It is true that a vast majority of addicts must hit “rock bottom” due to their chemical dependency, before they will enter a drug and alcohol treatment center, in a lucid moment of self-preservation. But all addicts are motivated differently and have different levels of their chemical dependency. For that reason, some may be motivated to get help by loved ones, while others may need to nearly die before they’ll get help. Common reasons people seek help include, but are not limited to, family pressure, legal issues, illness or near-death experiences, or finances. Sadly, many choose to wait until there’s no other option, but this does not describe all addicts or alcoholics, so seek help for them now!

If you, or someone you love in Florida is consumed by a harmful chemical dependency to drugs or alcohol, it is advisable to seek professional help as soon as possible. The more time goes on, the harder it will be to stop it. In contacting a substance abuse rehab, you can get immediate answers to any questions. It is never a poor decision to at least start to research the rehab options.

The Atlantic Beach Corporation bought and developed most of the land in what is now Atlantic Beach in 1915, and the town was incorporated in 1926. The town was expanded in the 1987 when it annexed Seminole Beach, which had previously been within the city limits of Jacksonville. The current mayor is Mike Borno.[]
